'Tis NOT The Season To Live Like A Movie

December 22nd 2006 15:51
A lot of people experience the holiday blues because they have a picture of the way they think that things should happen at this time of the year. This year, forget all about the holiday movies that you have watched in the past. They were only written in order to evoke emotion. They are not how real life is. Therefore, you really should not place such high expectations on the holidays or the people that you share them with. Instead, try to just go with the flow.

Do your best not to attach negative memories to the holidays. For instance, if someone close to you died the day before Christmas, then remember that they died from a specific cause, not because of the holiday itself. These two things are very separate events. If you can keep yourself emotionally in check in this way, then you will fair better this Christmas.

'Tis NOT The Season To Overspend

December 20th 2006 15:42
Make sure that you do not overspend. While this is easier said than done, take a moment to think about how you are going to feel when you get your credit card bill after the holidays are over. There will probably be presents that you wish that you had not bought. Therefore, take some time now to make sure that you only buy those things that you absolutely love. This will instantly cut the amount of your bills down a great deal.

December 19th 2006 15:39
Music has been proven to help improve your mood. Therefore, you really should listen to your favorite music wherever and whenever you can. This includes in your car, at work, while exercising, while cooking or cleaning the house, and before going to bed. Of course, this does not have to be Christmas music. It can be any type of music that you enjoy.

'Tis The Season For Exercise

December 18th 2006 15:35
While you may not enjoy exercising and may even find it painful you will feel a lot better emotionally once you have exercised. A lot of studies have been done to back this up. These studies show that this is because endorphins will kick in once you have exercises and make you feel a lot better than before you had started. Therefore, you should try to exercise 3 to 5 times a week for about 30 minutes each time. This exercise can include walking, joining a gym, dancing, or anything else that gets you moving.

'Tis NOT The Season For Alcohol

December 17th 2006 15:34
You need to understand that alcohol is a chemical depressant. Regardless of what you may think, it does NOT make you feel better. In fact, it will only make you feel worse. This is why you know of mean drunks, sad drunks and people who have committed suicide after drinking heavily. Alcohol will only magnify any sad feelings that you are already experiencing. This is why you really need to watch how much alcohol you drink while at holiday parties and family get-togethers.

Bipolar Medications & Women

December 15th 2006 18:37
Mood-stabilizing medications have been linked with women's reproductive problems. They can actually put a woman at risk for infertility, diabetes, heart disease and cancer of the uterus. Thankfully these can be treated with medications. However, lithium and other bipolar medications should never be taken by pregnant women. Pregnancy itself can actually stabilize someone who is bipolar.

Later on in life, women's homrones will fluxuate because of menopause. Symptoms will usually increase during this time. Therapy may be helpful here along with a change in medications

Teenagers With Bipolar Disorder

December 14th 2006 18:32
The symptoms and treatment of bipolar disorder in older teenagers, are very much like those in adults. However, teenagers face a lot of distinct problems. They may resent the treatment that they have to undergo and so you will need to allow them to be part of any conversation about their treatment. In these conversations you should speak frankly about treatment options. This will help you to not develop an adversarial relationship with your teenager. Of course, these teenagers should also avoid alcohol and drugs since they can interact with the medications that they are taking or bring about mood swings.

New statistics show that if suffer from depression for the first time ever after you have a heart attack, then you are at significantly greater risk for having future cardiovascular problems. This is about 1.7-fold risk for new cardiovascular events following this initial episode of depression. Some studies have suggested that beta-blockers are possibly responsible for depression in heart patients, researchers also studied this possible link in a separate study. However, it did not appear to be any difference between patients using beta-blockers and those who didn't. Nevertheless, they could not rule out the fact that higher doses of the medication need to be taken for a longer period of time may cause depression.

Zinc is more important than you think

December 9th 2006 17:30
If you do not have enough Zinc in your body then you may become apathetic, lose your appetite and even become lethargic. This mineral also helps to keep your body’s copper level in check. When you do not have enough Zinc then the copper in your body can increase to a toxic level. This will result in paranoia and fearfulness.

Magnesium deficiency can result in depression. It results in confusion, agitation, anxiety and hallucinations. There can also be a variety of physical problems resulting from magnesium deficiency. Since most diets do not include enough magnesium, and stress also contributes to magnesium depletion , you should take a Magnesium supplement.

Vitamin C deficiencies can also lead to depression. Therefore a person may need to take this supplement, especially if they have had surgery or an inflammatory disease. Some other things that can deplete a person’s Vitamin C level are stress, pregnancy, lactation and taking certain medications (i.e. aspirin, tetracycline, and birth control pills).

Vitamin B12

December 7th 2006 17:03
Vitamin B12 plays an important role in red blood cell formation. This is why deficiency leads to an oxygen-transport problem that is known as pernicious anemia. This disorder can cause mood swings, paranoia, irritability, confusion, dementia, hallucinations and mania. These symptoms are eventually followed by appetite loss, dizziness, weakness, shortage of breath, heart palpitations, diarrhea and tingling sensations in all extremities. A B12 deficiency takes a lot of time to develop because the body uses the liver to store a 3 to 5 year supply of this vitamin. Usually deficiencies occur when B12 cannot be absorbed in the intestinal tract. This is especially true for older people.

Vitamin B6: Pyridoxine

December 6th 2006 16:57
In order to help your body process amino acids you will need vitamin B6, which is also known as Pyridoxine. It also helps with the production of serotonin, melatonin and dopamine. It is rare for a person to be deficient in Vitamin B6. However, when deficiencies do occur a person will suffer from impaired immunity, skin lesions and mental confusion. Some reasons why a person may need more B6 is because they are an alcoholic, are suffering from kidney failure, using oral contraceptives or taking an MAOIs.

Pellagra is caused by a lack of Vitamin B3, which is also known as niacin. This is what leads to psychosis and dementia. There are a lot of commercial food products available that contain niacin. This is why Pellagra has almost completely disappeared. However, small Vitamin B3 deficiencies can lead to agitation, anxiety, mental slowness and physical slowness too.

Vitamin B1

December 3rd 2006 16:51
To convert glucose, also known as blood sugar, into fuel the brain uses Vitamin B1, which is also known as thiamine. Without this vitamin the brain quickly runs out of energy, thus leading to fatigue, depression, irritability, anxiety, and sometimes even thoughts of suicide. Vitamin deficiencies in this area can also cause memory problems, loss of appetite, insomnia, and gastrointestinal disorders. The body’s supply of vitamin B1 is drained whenever you consume refined carbohydrates, (i.e. simple sugars).

Sometimes it is just as simple as taking a vitamin for depression. This is because there are numerous vitamin deficiencies that can lead a person to have some of the symptoms of depression. For instance, the B-Complex vitamins are very important to your mental and emotional well-being. Since these vitamins cannot be stored within our body, we must depend entirely upon our daily diet to supply them. We also need to avoid those things that destroy B vitamins including alcohol, refined sugars, nicotine and caffeine. Thus, it should not be surprising that a lot of people are Vitamin B deficient. Of course, this is also true for several minerals as well.
