An Introduction to Depression
October 27th 2006 01:30
A person suffers from depression because their brain’s neurotransmitters are not acting correctly. These transmitters carry levels of nor adrenaline and serotonin. When these levels are too low a person becomes depressed.
Some forms of mild depression can be successfully treated with therapy. In these cases a therapist can help a person by being there to talk about their problems. Therapy may last for weeks, months, or even years before the patient is able to move past their depression and get on with their life.
There are also some forms of depression that are more severe. No amount of therapy seems to help here. In these cases drug therapy must be considered.
In either case, depression is treatable. It may take a while to find the right dosage of the right drug, but once this is done a person can lead a normal, productive life.
