Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

This song by the Smashing Pumpkins really sums it up well.
Did you ever have that feeling of being on edge?An all around feeling of irritation? You wished there was something you could do to relieve the anger?Having the feeling that you wished that a stray dog would wander into your path so you could just rip it's head off.?
It is interesting to see other peoples reaction when we get in that state. Some laugh, perhaps they are all too familiar with the feeling and they are seeing themslves in someone else's behavior.Or maybe they are just happy that they aren't feeling that way and are thinking "Better them than me"
Somebody suggested exercise to help these feelings. From my own experience, this sometimes can feed the fire. But it can help dampen the pain of the rage and taking out your frustrations in a constructive way is better than a destructive way.For some of us,we may have learned this lesson the hard way, after punching a wall or breaking something that we didn't mean to,then the rage turns to guilt and self loathing, those times are dark times indeed. The rage just has to take its course and melt away.It almost always goes away, just like all of the other emotions that we feel.
Situations can bring it on,those people, places and things that get under our skin. That person at work that really pushes our buttons,or maybe the daily commute is enough to trigger it.Sometimes it may be better to find another gig than try and deal with it.
Finding things that we like to do can help.Things that empower us,lift us up.Listening to music, talking it out to someone we respect(or maybe telling that person at work what it REALLY is all about!)
Either way,we just need to be good to ourselves.I am always struggling with anger, and when it gets real intense,it is hard to think right. So maybe I'll give a listen to that Smashing Pumpkins song, and find some more songs that match my feelings. But first I gotta fix that hole in the wall!!!
