Anger. It can really take over sometimes. And we have all heard the saying that depression is really anger turned inward.That may or may not be true in some cases. Depression can also be brought on by situations or environments. It may not be a mistake that a kid brought up in a dysfunctional household where substance abuse runs rampant, develops poor coping skills and turns to booze and or drugs to cope. Then, as he gets older and has a family of his own, he treats them the same way he was treated, whether he is in recovery or not........( just because one is in recovery doesn't mean they are recovering)
That could be the real meaning and definition of co-dependancy.
That's what leads to the anger.
I happen to be a very angry guy. My anger has gotten much better through acceptance. And not acceptance in the sense that I say to myself, Hey!, ya know what? These people are urinating on me but I have to learn to accept that people DO urinate on other people sometimes!!! Nope. Sometimes I need to face my deepest darkest fears,( which are never as deep or as dark as I imagine them) and get out of a situation.This aint a good fit.Although others may tell me it is, I gotta get out.........NO MATTER WHAT!!
Then I look for the signs of other people that have the same behavior, and I stay away!
Expectations are a huge one for me.People are always going to let us down. One way I've managed to keep long standing friendships is by unconditional love. Just letting folks be who they are, and try not to take it personal. I can build people up to be what they can never be.
Acceptance comes with alot of trial and error, alot of setbacks, and at least in my experience, it is never permanent.It comes in and out. Just like the tide........
