How To Naturally Manage SAD

November 1st 2006 01:48
There are some self-help strategies that you can utilize if you suffer from SAD.

The first thing that you can do is lighten up your home by using brighter light bulbs. If possible you should remove your curtains to let natural sunlight in too.

Another thing that you can do is take a vacation in a sunny location such as Florida or California. Even if you cannot take a vacation, you should get outside for an early morning walk between 6 and 8AM.

Try to eat 1 or 2 oz of carbohydrates per day. This includes such things as pasta and cereal. You should also avoid alcohol and caffeine.

You should also maintain a regular sche3dule getting up and going to bed at the same time everyday, even on the weekends.

If none of these things help to alleviate your SAD then you really should seek professional help. SAD can become such a problem that it can lead to suicide. However, this does not have to happen because there are some medications that your doctor can prescribe and from which you can benefit.

What is SAD?

October 30th 2006 17:03
Season changes are a normal part of the Earth’s lifecycle. With these changes come different experiences. Spring yields relief from wintertime. Summer brings lots of outdoor life, energy and fun. Fall yields a beautiful season. Winter yields many inconveniences such as snow, ice and cold. A lot of people also experience severe depression in the wintertime. This is called SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and is often accompanied with weariness and irritability too. This is caused by a hormonal change that takes place when a person is deprived from light for a long period of time.

People develop SAD because of the lack of sunlight. Studies show that 20% of Americans suffer from some form of SAD. These studies show that 25,000,000 Americans suffer from mild to moderate SAD. Of course there are also more severe forms of SAD, which leads to symptoms so severe that people’s jobs are jeopardized and their lives are disrupted. Some of these people are also driven to suicide.
