The scarecrow and the day job

Some folks are creatures of habit. They like to get into a routine that becomes predictable. They like the security that routine provides, because we all need some kind of security in our lives. We also need something to look forward to.The day-in and day-out might give them a feeling of accomplishment, strength, and knowing what is coming the next day makes them even stronger and perhaps more confident as they trudge onward.
Every autumn,it is always fun to see the leaf men,or scarecrows that are newly created. They are given old clothes that perhaps people have grown tired of or are ripped and torn, but yet they are brand new leaf men,or dummies as we used to call them.
These little creations always look so good the first few days, then as Halloween slowly approaches, and the promise of winter looms closer, the wear and tear on our leaf men becomes increasingly evident.Maybe we might have to stuff them again, especially if it rains and the wind picks up.Around November, the leaf man is torn to shreds. Some times people leave them out until there is nothing left.
Nobody really cares to do anything with them. They just pick up whats left and throw it in the garbage. The daily grind can devastate those that find themselves in a job that they hate, and have to keep to stay alive.Or being in a situation or relationship that is toxic, but they stay and get torn up,thinking there is no other way but to stay where they are. That is what happens to some folks. The day-in and day-out just tears them up,wears them down.
A great line from an XTC song:
"Cuz we aint got no brains and we aint got no hearts it's just that wild old wind that tears us all apart. We're the Scarecrow people and we've got lots in common with you.And if you dont start living well you're all gonna wind up scarecrow people too".
