There are a lot of myths about postpartum depression. Unfortunately this is because a lot of people have been misinformed about this form of depression and how to cure it. While we hear the term a lot this does not mean that we understand it.
70% of new mothers, who have just gone through childbirth, suffer from this type of depression. This can last for hours, weeks, or even months. Some new fathers also experience this type of depression. However, it is usually those women who have low self-esteem that suffer from it more frequently. Of course, there are a lot of other reasons why new mothers suffer from PPD. These include physical stress, changes in hormonal levels and increased levels of stress.
Thankfully this type of depression can be treated successfully. This is great news because it allows women to enjoy motherhood.
